Meet Mayor F. Michael Sottile

Mayor Mike Sottile is an Isle of Palms native who has devoted much of his life to public service. Raised on the Isle of Palms, Mayor Sottile first served his country in the United States Air Force. Concurrently working full-time as an insurance agent, Mike Sottile was elected to the position of Mayor in November 2001 and re-elected in 2005. Mayor Sottile chairs the City Council meetings and is a full voting member of the Public Safety Committee and Ways and Means Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC), the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) Board and the Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments' (BCDCOG) CHATS Policy Committee.
Mayor Sottile's service to the City spans over two decades. He was first elected City Councilman in 1990, serving 2 1/2 terms until his mayoral inauguration in 2002. Over the years, Mayor Sottile has garnered a wealth of experience and knowledge of City methods and practices, serving as past Chairman of the Public Works Committee, Public Safety Committee and Ways & Means Committee.
Previously an avid hunter, Mayor Sottile now enjoys his Harley motorcycle, spending time poolside and being an amateur chef. He especially enjoys attending Atlanta Braves baseball Spring Training in Florida every year.
A member of Christ Our King Stella Maris Catholic Church, Mayor Sottile resides at 132 Sparrow Drive with his wife, Loraine Sottile. They have one daughter, Amy Sottile.
