IOP City Council Highlights - October

Standing Committees

  • City Council approved repairs to the roof of the Public Works building in an amount not to exceed $23,000 to address condensation issues and prevent damage.
  • City Council also approved increasing provision for Builder’s Risk insurance for the marina dock rehabilitation project by an amount not to exceed $35,000.
  • City Council heard a presentation on the latest version of the marina restaurant lease. Further details about this project are available at www.iop.net/projects and the lease is available in the City Council Agenda packet for October 27, 2020.
  • City Council approved memoranda of understanding with North Charleston and Summerville for mutual police aid. This will enhance the safety and security of all communities involved.
  • City Council bestowed the "Signal 30" Award upon Terry McKenzie of the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission for acts above and beyond what is expected of citizens to help other people. In this instance, Terry happened to be passing by a home in the local area and noticed a generator attached to the home was on fire. No one had yet reported the fire and the home was occupied. Terry acted quickly and put out the fire at great risk to himself. Thus, saving the life of the occupant in the process. 
  • City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission. This is a major step towards providing sewer to the whole island.

Resolutions

  • City Council approved first reading of Ordinance 2020-10 an ordinance to amend the City's Zoning Ordinance to allow sewer pump stations in the SR-1 single-residential district. It was determined that Planning Commission will hold a special meeting on October 28th 2020 to establish "performance criteria" for lift stations, such as screening, vegetative buffers, and odor control.
  • City Council approved first reading of Ordinance 2020-11 an ordinance to amend the regulations of alarm systems.
  • City Council approved first reading of Ordinance 2020-12 an ordinance to enter into a commercial lease with Marker 116, LLC.   • City Council approved first reading of Ordinance 2020-14 the fifth amendment to commercial lease agreement to Marina Joint Ventures, LLC. This amendment will help clarify parking between the MJV LLC and the Marker116 LLC.
