COVID - 19 | Update #6

  • The City of Isle of Palms is currently in a state of emergency. Residents are urged to stay home and follow the CDC's guidelines for social distancing.
  • The City of Isle of Palms, in coordination with the Town of Sullivan's Island, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Charleston County Emergency Management Division, and the Town of Mt. Pleasant continues to monitor the rapidly emerging outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and preparing for potential impacts.
  • The Governor of South Carolina has made a recommendation that citizens limit gatherings to 3 or less people.
  • The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is investigating 22 additional cases of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus. This brings the total number statewide to 195 cases* in 33 counties.
  • On March 22, 2020, the Town of Sullivan's Island Council approved an emergency ordinance to limit access to Sullivan's Island to residents, service workers, contractors, delivery services, medical service providers, care givers and the like. Sullivan's Island Police will establish a checkpoint on SC-703 near the entrance to the Island. Residents should either have a driver's license with a Sullivan's Island address, Sullivan's Island windshield decal or proof of ownership. Isle of Palms residents will be able to access IOP via Sullivan's Island by showing proof of residency.
  • In coordination between the Isle of Palms and Town of Sullivan's Island Police Department, the checkpoint at Breach Inlet will be removed. Sullivan's Island residents will continue to have access to retail outlets on Isle of Palms and Mt. Pleasant via SC-517. Likewise, residents of Isle of Palms will be able to access Sullivan's Island and points beyond via SC-703.
  • Beginning on Saturday, March 21, 2020, access to the island will be restricted for the next fourteen (14) days beginning between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to the following:

    • Residents and property owners of the island with a current parking decal or any other proof of residency or ownership.
      • 2019 and 2020 resident parking decals, hurricane re-entry stickers, Wild Dunes resident sticker.
      • Police Department will temporarily stop issuing in person residential beach parking permits and passes. Residents who apply for their residential parking decal online will receive their permits and passes via us mail.
    • Relatives and/or friends of residents only in a vehicle with a resident with a current parking decal or proof of residency readily visible on or near the vehicle.
    • Caretakers
    • Contractors with current business licenses
    • Service workers with current decals
    • Short-term renters with a short-term rental contract or hotel guest pass or Wild Dunes QR code
    • Delivery personnel, including but not limited to pharmacy, FedEx, UPS, Amazon, USPS
    • Any person delivering essential medical services, including caregivers
    • Employees and suppliers of local business, including but not limited to, grocery stores, restaurants, contractors, Short Term Rentals and property managers.
  • The emergency ordinance also prohibits any public gatherings of any type of greater than 10 persons. All deadlines imposed by City Ordinance shall be suspended until July 15, 2020 and a temporary exemption from the plastics ban is in place for Isle of Palms businesses.
