IOP City Council Highlights - August

  • City Council approved the "Leola Hanbury Employee of the Year Recognition Award." The $500 award may be given annually to one employee displaying exemplary service, going above and beyond normal job requirements and expectations, demonstrated integrity and a strong commitment to the City of Isle of Palms. Employees and citizens may nominate an individual to be considered by the Award Review Committee through September 30, 2019. The award will be announced at the annual Employee Appreciation event to be held on October 18, 2019.
  • City Council approved a contract to Thomas and Hutton for the design and engineering of the drainage improvements to the 30th, 36th and 41st Avenue outfalls and for small but high impact internal projects located at Sparrow Drive, Forest Trail, Cross Lane, 32nd Avenue and 41st Avenue.
  • City Council approved a one-year contract to Host Compliance for a short term rental compliance monitoring software to be used by the Building, Planning and Zoning Department to ensure compliance to the City's regulations on short term rentals.
  • City Council appointed Nicole DeNeane as interim City Clerk.

Ordinances

Approved and Ratified

  • City Council approved second reading of Ordinance 2017.08 which requires that all subdivisions of lots be connected to the public sewer system.
  • City Council approved second reading of Ordinance 2017.09 that all new construction or substantial improvements shall be connected to a public sewer system where a public sewer line is located within one hundred fifty (150') feet of the property. Substantial improvement is defined as repairs, reconstruction, alteration, additions or improvements to a structure in which the total cost equals or exceeds fifty percent (50%) of the fair market value of the structure before the start of construction. The ordinance also reduces the lot coverage requirements from forty percent (40%) to thirty percent (30%) and floor area requirements for lots with septic systems.
  • City Council also approved second reading of Ordinance 2017-10 which requires properties to connect to the public sewer system upon the sale of transfer of property when a public sewer line is available and located in a right-of-way or easement abutting any lot line of the property.

First Reading

  • City Council voted to defer Ordinance 2019-16 back to the Public Safety Committee for more discussion. This ordinance would require owners to keep swimming pools filtered and clean, replace any rotten wood, remove any peeling paint, keep all surfaces painted, and keep all porches, decks, handrails and guardrails structurally sound.
  • City Council approved First Reading of Ordinance 2019-17. This ordinance establishes rules of procedure for public participation during meetings.
