Standing Committees

  • City Council approved the budgeted cost of living adjustment of 2.2% for all City employees. The estimated 12 month fully loaded cost of the adjustment is $135,861.
  • City Council approved a recommendation from the Recreation Committee to award a contract to Talbot Tennis in the amount of $29,437 to repair and resurface the tennis courts. The work is expected to be completed this Spring.
  • The Lowvelo Bike Ride was approved as a City-sponsored event. This fundraising event, which will support MUSC's Hollings Cancer Center, will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Approximately 200 riders will come through the Isle of Palms via Breach Inlet between 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Trident Construction was chosen as the Design Build team to undertake Phase I of the Public Safety Building repairs. Phase I involves reviewing the data available, including the engineering assessment reports, inspect the building and review site data, review the original construction drawings, conduct selective exploratory demolition to determine the source of identified deficiencies and develop a construction strategy for the repairs. The cost for Phase I is $95,267.
  • City Council approved changing the parking rates of the Municipal Parking Lots and the metered on-street parking on Ocean Boulevard. Between March 1st and October 31st, the parking fees in the Municipal parking lot will be $10 Monday-Friday and $12 Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. The hourly rate for on-street parking will be $2.00.
  • The Public Works Workshop will soon undergo renovations. City Council approved a contract to Carolina Professional Builders, LLC in the amount of $137,375 to replace the roof, install new electronic bay doors and reconfigure the office space to accommodate the new Assistant Director position.
  • City Council agreed to move forward with Concept 2 of the Marina Dock Rehabilitation Project. Concept 2 involves replacing the docks in kind as much as possible, make them ADA compliant while using up-to-date design standards. This concept extends the outside dock roughly 30 feet into Morgan Creek and the area next to the boat ramp is closed for safety concerns. Concept 2 also adds a small dock to the Intracoastal side of Phase II.

Ordinances

oRDINANCE 2019-04 Expansion of the plastic bag ban

City Council unanimously approved First Reading of an ordinance to regulate the distribution of plastic straws, stirrers and expanded polystyrene/plastic foam at point of sale. Food providers would be required to provide recyclable or compostable food service ware. City Council has not yet decided when the ordinance will take effect.
