IOP City Council Highlights - January

January 28, 2020

Standing Committees

  • The Council meeting began with the nominations for, and election of, the Mayor Pro Tem by the members of Council. Jimmy Ward was elected.
  • Council heard a presentation of the FY19 audited statements by Chris Kerr of McKay Kiddy, through the process of the audit the FY19 financial statements were found to be in good order with no material deficiencies.
  • Council considered and approved a sole source contract to Safe Fleet Mobile Vision for the replacement of six (6) in-car camera systems
  • Council considered and approved a contract to Bohicket Construction LLC for a diesel generator and transfer switch for the Public Works workshop so that the public works department can continue to provide service to citizens when power is not available.
  • Council approved submitting the following projects as priorities for funding from the Transportation Sales Tax program: 1) Improvements to the Waterway Boulevard multi-use path, 2) Resurfacing Ocean Boulevard between 10th and 14th. The first project will improve the pedestrian utility of the Waterway Boulevard pathway and the second will improve the look for the commercial district at front beach.
  • Council approved the creation of a Citizen Advisory Board to gather feedback about the viability of a community swimming pool referendum question in November 2020.

Ordinances

Second Reading

  • Ordinance 2019 -16 - City council did not approve second reading on an ordinance to establish new standards for dilapidated structures.

Resolutions

  • Council passed a safety resolution, reaffirming the Isle of Palms' commitment to safety for our citizens and our employees.
