IOP City Council Highlights - July
Standing Committees
- City Council approved a contract for The Mercer Group in the amount of $39,000 for executive search services for the positions of City Administrator, Chief of Police and Public Works Assistant Director of Maintenance and Facilities. Council also approved the updated job descriptions of both the City Administrator and Chief of Police positions.
- City Council approved the FY18 annual purchase of beach access path mats to replace the existing surfaces located at 42nd, 9th and the 30th blocks. These ADA compliant beach accessibility mats help people with all abilities be closer to the beach.
- City Council awarded a sole source contract to Parkeon for the replacement of five (5) parking kiosks at Ocean Boulevard.
- Since approving year-round enforcement of the Managed Beach Parking Plan, City Council entertained a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee to give residents two (2) free visitor parking booklets of thirty (30) daily visitor parking permits instead of one (1). City Council also discussed allowing each daily visitor parking permit to be used on multiple days. The Public Safety Committee will discuss this initiative further at their next committee meeting.
Ordinances
oRDINANCE 2018.11 – budget
City Council approved an ordinance to provide consistency with the procurement code related to the approval of expenditures.
ORDINANCE 2018.12 – procurement
City Council approved an ordinance to provide new exceptions from competitive procurement requirements. The following types of expenditures will now be exempt from the City's competitive procurement requirements: Corrective work necessary for repairing or replacing faulty or defective workmanship, goods and services purchased through a state contract awarded by the purchasing division of the State of South Carolina, and expenditures deemed critical to the City when time does not permit for solicitation in accordance to the Code.
Resolutions
City Council adopted a resolution to support and approve the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) FY 19 Budget. The City will initiate a discussion with CARTA about the establishment of an accessible and affordable transit program that would offer beach visitors an alternative to their cars. City Council also adopted a resolution supporting the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls.
