IOP City Council Highlights - March

  • City Council approved a $7,500 contract with Thomas and Hutton for the engineering and design of the improvements to the drainage system on Tabby Lane. The water backs up significantly during heavy rains and high tides and makes the road impassable. Several residents that live on Tabby Lane reached out to the City requesting permission to install a flap gate on the drainage system on Tabby Lane at their expense.
  • City Council approved $30,000 for emergency repairs to Marginal Road and 41st Avenue. The improvements include replacing a pipe that is separated which is causing a depression as the soil leaks through the pipe and degrades the asphalt.
  • City Council approved executing the Sub-recipient agreement of the SC Department of Natural Resources and FEMA grant in the amount of $294,244.20 obtained for a resident to elevate his home which had been damaged due to flooding multiple times.
  • City Council approved a contract with Rahman's Painting and Repairs, LLC to perform the year 2 maintenance priorities for Fire Station 2. This award also includes replacing A/C ductwork in locker area, painting the roll up and folding doors and pressure wash, scrape and paint the lower half of bay.
  • City Council approved a change order to the Thomas and Hutton contract in the amount of $23,000 to analyze the drainage basins that connect to the outfalls and identify high value drainage improvement projects that could be undertaken in the upcoming fiscal year.
  • City Council approved a request from 48th Avenue LLC to install drainage infrastructure in their road, which is private, and tie into the City's Phase II drainage infrastructure system.
  • City Council approved a change order from Applied Technology Management (ATM) to pursue the necessary permits on behalf of the City to ensure that the existing Tidal Wave Dock is compliant with the regulatory requirements.

Ordinances

City Council ratified Ordinance 2014-04, an ordinance which expands the plastics bags prohibition to include other plastic products and Styrofoam products.

City Council approved First Reading of the following ordinances:

  • Ordinance 2019-05 – Changes to the short-term rental permit fees.
    • Increases the base fee to $350 for the first $2,000 in revenues and the incremental fee of $4.60 per each $1,000 or fraction of revenues
  • Ordinance 2019-06 – Increases the NPDES stormwater management fee from $48 to $72
  • Ordinance 2019-07 – Amendments to the minimum requirements for a lot to be allowed to be subdivided.
    • Increases the minimum size of a lot from 17,500 to 35,000 square feet of continuous highland in the SR1 single family residential district and from 8,000 to 16,000 in the SR2 district
