  • Mayor Carroll administered the oath to Ronald E. Hanna, the new Assistant City Administrator. Ronald is a Charleston native and graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelors in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Administration. He joins the City family after a career in public service in the City of Aiken and Berkeley County, where he worked as a project manager for economic development.
  • City Council approved the distribution of the FY19 positive net result. The General Fund is expected to generate revenues and transfers in in excess of expenditures and transfers out equal to approximately $2,000,000. In order to maintain a > 30% target in the General Fund (Fund Balance as a % of General Fund Expenditures), the General Fund will retain approximately $200,000, $100,000 will be distributed to the Disaster Recovery Fund and the remaining will be transferred to the Capital Projects Fund.
  • City Council approved a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee to request SCDOT to conduct a speed study on the section of Palm Boulevard between 10th and 21st Avenue to evaluate the feasibility of reducing the speed limit in that section of road due to the number of intersections and vehicular, bike and pedestrian activity and congestion.
  • City Council appointed Jan Anderson and Bob Hooper to fill the unexpired terms of two vacancies in the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission. Jan Anderson has a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University and master's Degrees in Regional Planning and Civil Engineering. Mr. Hooper previously served as the Chair of the Planning Commission, was a volunteer firefighter and worked with Thomas and Hutton as a Senior Cad Technician and Designer.

First Reading

Ordinance 2019-18 - City Council did not approve first reading of an ordinance to to prohibit smoking in city owned facilities, property, the beach and public beach access paths.
