IOP City Council Highlights - September

  • City Council approved an expenditure of $600,000 for the refurbishment of the 95' ladder truck for the Fire Department. The truck was originally purchased in 2003 and the refurbishment is expected to add up to 15 years to its useful life.
  • City Council approved replacing 4 patrol vehicles with F-150 police responder trucks to better diversify the fleet of police vehicles and provide for a variety of uses, including towing boats and responding to emergencies on the beach.
  • City Council approved an expenditure of $32,925 for the geotechnical investigation for the Isle of Palms marina dock repair project. This work involves conducting an analysis to obtain information on the subsurface conditions of the soil and the foundation with the proposed dock configuration.
  • City Council approved two recommendations from the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee to grant sponsorship requests from Lowvelo, a fundraising bike ride for cancer research, and to Pure Theater, for a performance about the relationship between Osceola and his wife Morning Dew. The play will be held on Sullivan's Island in October.
  • City Council approved a mutual aid agreement with Charleston County Sheriff's Office which provides a mechanism to quickly obtain emergency assistance in the form of personnel, equipment, materials, and other associated services.

Ordinance 2019-17 - This ordinance provides new guidelines for public participation during meetings. The total time allotted to the Citizen's comments period will be 30 minutes but may be extended by the Mayor or a majority vote of Council. Citizens must limit comments to 3 minutes and a timer will be used to track time and notify speakers when the time has expired. Group of speakers are encouraged to consolidate their comments to avoid repetition and speakers should not ask questions of Council. Speakers must use proper decorum and not harass or direct any personal attacks to Council members, staff or other members of the audience.
