IOP Water & Sewer Commission
The Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission is a separate entity from the City of Isle of Palms. The Commission is responsible to own, operate, and manage the water and waste water systems of the Isle of Palms, but not to incur debt without the authorization and approval of the City.
In 2018, Thomas & Hutton was engaged to update the Sewer Master Plan for the City, to map the expansion of the sewer collection system to the unsewered areas of the island and develop preliminary opinions of probable cost for the improvements and expansion. This initiative was a joint effort between the City of Isle of Palms and the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission.
In October 10, 2020, City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission to memorialize the stated common goal of expanding public sewer and establish how the two bodies will work together towards that goal.
The Commission is operated by five Commissioners:
- Chairman - Jay Leigh
- Vice Chairman - Curtis Helfrich, PE
- Jeffery Forslund
- Bob Hooper
- Don Smith
