Dominion Energy - Isle of Palms Tree Trimming

As part of its five-year cycle to maintain public safety and electric system reliability, Dominion Energy will begin pruning trees on the Isle of Palms next month. Dominion has an obligation and responsibility to the Public Service Commission to maintain the delivery of electricity to its customers and to do so, the lines must be kept free of tree limbs. There are also safety reasons for trimming – utility company employees work in and around lines in the trees, fire hazards, etc.

The company hosted an informative, drop-in workshop on Wednesday, August 7 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center located at 24 Twenty-Eighth Avenue.

Representatives from Dominion Energy, as well as the contractors performing the work, were available to answer questions and discuss safety, reliability, proper pruning methods and more. To help residents better understand how the project will impact their community, oversized maps marking the streets where trimming is planned were also on display.

The project, which will extend across more than 17 miles of overhead distribution lines throughout the island, is set to begin in September and will continue through the fall of 2019. Property owners will be notified by mail or email approximately two weeks prior to the start of trimming in their area.

Residents that were unable to attend the meeting may call the Dominion Customer Service number 800-251-7234 with questions about tree trimming or visit http://www.dominionenergysc.com/treetrimming. Residents may also call the customer service number to schedule an on site meeting with arborists Clay Chaplin or Mark Branham who are available to meet with residents upon request before cutting begins in order to explain what work needs to be done.

Dominion Energy made a presentation about the tree trimming work to City Council on Tuesday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m. Presentation to City Council on July 23, 2019.
