September and Fall – some of my favorite times to be on our island! The weather starts to cool a bit, and the crowds are gone for another season.
Some days it’s the little things that remind me why I’m so glad I live here. On my way into City Hall today, I drove by the marina and rec center as I do most days to see what was happening. What a great site to see families gathered on our public dock, the dog park packed with neighbors and their pets, the playground loaded with children and their parents, a soccer camp on one of the fields, tennis and pickleball players competing, workouts happening on our outdoor fitness court and the pavilion and some infield practice on one of the baseball fields. What great facilities we have for use by our community.
What’s one of the best ways to be engaged in our community? By voting! We have an election coming up this November. We will have four open council seats and the mayor’s seat. Please be sure your voter registration information is current so you can participate in our local election on November 4th - residents must register 30 days prior to the election. Election Day precincts are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. More information about registering, early voting and absentee voting is available at scvotes.gov. IOP always has great voter turnout and I’m sure this year will be no different.
