12/9/2025 - The City of Isle of Palms Public Works Department recently completed the Second Avenue outfall project in collaboration with Wapro Tide Valves of Sweden. Public Works designed the cantilevered concept and measurements, which were then engineered and custom-built by Wapro.
During the most recent king tides, the drainage system from Ocean Boulevard to the Second Avenue outfall remained completely dry, with no tidal inundation - a significant improvement. This upgrade will allow the Ocean Boulevard–Second Avenue drainage system to function as added holding capacity during rain events, rather than remaining full due to tidal influence.
This project represents a major step in strengthening the island’s drainage resilience and protecting roadways and neighborhoods.
