Update - May 2025
- Shoal management work- The City's contractor has moved an initial 40,000 CY of sand to the Beachwood East area, 35,000 CY to the area around Ocean Club and Seascape. They will return to place an additional 40,000 CY in the Beachwood East area. Approximately 400 sandbags were salvaged from the southern end and moved to the Beachwood East area.
- The USACE work is progressing and pipes are currently being extended to begin pumping sand to the 300 block of Ocean Blvd.
- The supplemental work is complete.
Update - April 2025
Beach Maintenance & Restoration
- All permits have been issued. Bids have been solicited. Contracts have been executed with the contractor, SJ Hamill, and the WDCA for partnering. The contractor is expecting to begin mobilizing equipment April 7th and moving sand April 9th. The contractor expects to be able to move 120,000 CY by June 1.
- The USACE work is progressing and pipes are currently being extended to begin pumping sand to the 300 block of Ocean Blvd. The supplemental work is scheduled to begin the week of April 7th.
Update - March 2025
IOP County Park Emergency Vehicle Access
- Truluck construction, city staff and county staff have been coordinating construction.
- Concrete work is complete, paver work is scheduled for week of March 10th.
- Fencing is delayed, but all other work anticipated to be complete before the end of March.
Beach Access Improvements
- Construction of ADA boardwalks at 26th, 36th 46th and 52nd Avenues complete.
Beach Maintenance & Restoration
- The City is expecting to be able to salvage bags and move them from the Breach Inlet end to the Beachwood East area as the Breach Inlet end became protected by the USACE project the week of 2/10/25.
- Staff and CSE have received calls indicating that the issuance of the Wild Dunes shoal management project permit is imminent. CSE and staff are working on issuing an RFB for this work and anticipating work could begin in April.
- Ahtna working on the Isle of Palms. They have completed initial work associated with dredging approximately 50,000CY of material to make the Intracoastal Waterway to become navigable.
- The contractor is moving operations back to the material stockpile areas.
- Sullivan's Island has agreed to allow the contractor to place the remaining 20,000CY of material allocated to them onto the Isle of Palms.
- After the remaining Sullivan's Island allocation is complete, the contractor will work on moving the material allocated to the Isle of Palms. The City's contractor will begin shifting material into a protective berm once sufficient material has been placed on the beach.

IOP County Park Emergency Vehicle Access
- Staff held preconstruction meeting with County staff and Truluck construction and hold preconstruction meetings with contractor and County staff. Anticipate work beginning mid February.
Beach Access Path Improvements
- Construction of ADA boardwalks at 46 and 52nd Avenue complete. Construction of boardwalks at 26A and 36A underway.

- Wild Dunes shoal management project application is waiting on environmental review by SCDNR, which began the week of 2/3/2025. Once permits are issued, construction anticipated early spring 2025.
Update - January 2025
IOP County Park Emergency Vehicle Access
- Staff is working to have the contract executed with Truluck construction and hold preconstruction meetings with contractor and County staff. Anticipate work beginning in February.

- Construction of ADA boardwalks at 46 and 52nd Avenue complete. Construction of boardwalks at 26A and 36A began week of 1/6/2025.

- Wild Dunes shoal management project application submitted and awaiting permits. If permits are issued, construction anticipated early 2025.
- Ahtna working on Sullivan's Island. The contractor has moved approximately 160,000 CY of the 200,000 CY for Sullivan's Island. Borrow material stockpiling continues. USACE is trying to negotiate an agreement with Ahtna to dredge an additional 50,000 CY from the Intracoastal Waterway to IOP- prior to moving the sand from the borrow site onto IOP. Expected to begin operations on IOP in February.

IOP County Park Emergency Vehicle Access
- County Park staff is expected to complete their design review process this week.
- After final approvals are given, the City will be able to seek bids.
Beach Access Path Improvements
- Contract for construction of ADA boardwalks at 46 and 52nd Avenue executed. Construction at 52nd Avenue began 10/4. Completion date January 2024. Received bids for the construction of boardwalks at 26A and 36A. Final approval from Greenbelt Board expected in November, and funds available in December.
Beach Maintenance and Restoration
- Emergency beach restoration work is ongoing as needed. Sandbag placement at Breach Inlet and Beachwood East is ongoing as bags are delivered to fill gaps.
- Wild Dunes shoal management project application submitted. Public meeting held on May 22 at 5pm, at the Rec Center. If permits are issued, construction anticipated end of 2024, early 2025.
- Contract awarded to Ahtna Marine. Pre-Construction meeting held on 4/10.Notice to proceed issued on 5/1. Contractor began mobilizing to project area. Final project schedule not yet completed. Significant work needed, approx. 6-8 weeks, in the AIWW placement area prior to any sand being pumped on the beach. On 7/15 City was informed that contractor is starting sand placement on Sullivan's Island, then move to IOP, due to the amount of clearing and dewatering needed in IOPs sediment areas. Sand pumping at Sullivan's Island started on 9/23. Sand placement at IOP will commence approx. 6 weeks after the work at Sullivan's Island begins. City is waiting on OCRM and USACE permit for proposed supplemental work.

- City approved design. City has received and a design change order to account for additional coordination and has requested additional information. Once Charleston County Parks approves design, project will go out to bid. Construction planned for end of 2024.
