1/23/2026 - Cottrell Contracting will begin dredging a shoal at Breach Inlet and placing sand on the Isle of Palms beach in the coming days. Cottrell completed dredging all previously identified shoals within the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on January 23 and is now mobilizing to dredge the Breach Inlet shoal designated for placement on Isle of Palms.
Sand placement is planned for the area between 6th and 9th Avenues, coinciding with an ongoing beach restoration effort currently underway in the same vicinity by contractor Ahtna.
Approximately 200,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed on the beach. Cottrell is expected to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and anticipates completing the work within 30 days.
