Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew uses volunteer power to keep the coast clean, protect natural ecosystems & public health, and document litter to help solve the pollution crisis.
Check-in for sweeps is at the beach walkover in the 1100 block of Ocean Boulevard. Find our nook between the city building with the IOP postcard mural and the outdoor showers. We also provide reusable buckets, bags, gloves, clipboards, pencils, and litter grabbers for volunteers who have mobility challenges. Anyone who has helped with two litter sweeps is eligible for an IOP Cleanup Crew T-shirt made with sustainable resources, including recycled plastic.
Volunteers are asked to collect litter for at least 30 minutes and afterward can enjoy discounts at participating Isle of Palms restaurants. You can obtain a vehicle magnet that allows free parking in the City of IOP lots off Pavilion Drive during subsequent litter sweeps.
No advance registration required, but if you have a large group of 15 or more coming, we may be able to arrange a special litter sweep outside of our regular schedule.
Since 2018, our grass-roots group has collected and documented more than 263,000 litter items in partnership with South Carolina Aquarium's conservation team.
